Creating Paper Roses - Technique #1

(Using Patterned Petals and securing with Elmer's Glue)

I have been looking into all the various ways to create flowers, specifically roses,out of paper.
There are so many ways that it's overwhelming! So I am posting a few different sets of instructions with different techniques, tools and results.

Step 1: Gather Supplies and Tools
Step 2: Draw Various Parts on Paper
Step 3: Cut Petals and Leaves for your Rose
Step 4: Fold and Burnish Outer Petals
Step 5: Glue Outer Petals Together.
Step 6: Proceed to Inner Petals
Step 7: Glue Inner Petals to Outer Petal Base
Step 8: Add Leaves
Step 9: Arrange Rose, or Roses as Desired

Supplies and tools for this craft are very minimal.
Paper
Scissors
Glue

Pen, pencil or marker

Clamps (if available)

Paper can be construction paper, copy paper, old book pages, gift backs, gift wrap, scrapbook pages, newspaper,English: This is a paper bag from Victory Supermarkets (Photo credit: Wikipedia) brown paper bags…. Etc. Tissue paper is not recommended.












After some practice you can skip outlining the pieces and just cut them out.


Shown are some designs you can use to begin with. As you can see, each individual shape is quite simple. Draw if necessary by following the picture shown. Try to maintain size relationships.






To make one rose you should have cut out a few leaves (2 or 3) and 7 petals (3 outer pedals and 4 inner petals)













The three outer petals are glued together to make the base of the rose.












Here, three or four concentric circles are wound or wrapped into cone shapes. You should have 3 or 4 different sizes of circles.




Having glued three or four cones together, we can now glue them to the base.




I add two or three leaves to the bottom of the rose. The leaves are cut out and the edges are serrated by making cuts along the edges of the leaf.

Wood 101: Circular Saw

The following tips are helpful for safely and skillfully using a circular saw.  I feel that knowing how to operate your tools, what purposes they have and safety basics are the most important aspect of woodworking   You will gain experience over time but must start with safe practices.  If not, you will gain many scars and possibly lose limbs instead of gaining skill in your woodworking endeavors!

WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES!

Safety goggles might make you “look funny” for a minute but that is WAY than to not being able to look because you blinded yourself while sawing some plywood!!  Eye Protection is a must when working with a circular saw as chips fly and can obscure your vision and/or lodge themselves in your eye.  Ouch!  Also, you never know when gremlins might show up and start throwing things at you! 

Wood 101: Finger (Box) Joints

Finger joints are used to join two pieces of wood together  usually at a right angle, see illustration to the right. These joints are called finger joints as they look like interlocking fingers or box joints since they are commonly used when constructing boxes or drawers . Using this type of joint is both functional and decorative. The fingers fit together and are then glued to form a strong joint.

Cool Cab Logo (Font Options) Graphic Design

I am a total amature @ Graphic Design. Mediocre is probably the best way to describe what little graphic design work i have done.  I have created a few different logo designs over the years, a couple of logos for vacation homes I managed, one for a non-profit group I co-founded that helped people conquer their addictions and the logo for my own business..

Mostly I have designed logos for consulting clients as a kind of thrown in service., a good excuse for me to exercise my artist muscle.  I love fonts so designing logos is fun because I get to play with a variety of cool fonts.  Also logos were a good excuse to learn the basics of Photoshop.

Random Project: How TO Create Awesome Duct Tape art!

I adore duct tape, I have loved it since I discovered it's ability to stick to almost anything when I was in middle school.  That’s when it became my go-to preferred tape for anything except paper!  I used duct tape to repair a belt once and then decided I would wrap the whole belt with the tape.  It looked awesome, so I thought what else could I do with this?

I used it for all kinds of different things, covering notebooks, decorating my backpack and so many other things!  But, it wasn't until about two years ago that I started using different colors and patterns of duct tape to create 2 dimensional art. 

My To Do & Wish To Do List!

My son and I will be making stress balls out of common household materials (Thanks to my niece Alecia!)	We will be creating a mural using repurposed lids from recycled containers (like the one pictured above)!
Building a toy box that looks like a giant Lego (using plans from Ana White)	Up-Cycling coffee creamer bottles  into bowling pins ( idea my son came up with)
Turning rocks into “Stone Buddies” not to be confused with “Pet Rocks®”	Building this support structure for our sugar snap pea container garden!
Building a loft bed for my boy (using plans from Ana White)	Making candles from recycled candles and crayons! (once I get into my storage unit and dig out the supplies)

I could list out projects I want to do all day but unfortunately I don't think you would be that interested so I will end it here. :)

 I have thought about starting a blog for a while but didn't really feel I had anything to write about. Well, I shouldn't say that. I have plenty to write about and I do write often. A better way to say it would be I didn't think I had anything that I wanted to share with the world and in turn anything that others would want to read.

However, I have been bouncing around various blogs lately getting some ideas for different projects I want to do and realized that a lot of these blog authors and I have a ton in common. They are crafty, creative people who have knowledge to share about building furniture, creating wall art, decorating a child's room and so much more.

Many stay at home moms have found ways to use a blog to make money or get free products and services or just to share their unique creative style with the world. I have discovered many inspiring people (mostly women) blog hopping and I have them listed in a widget on the sidebar to the right.
