Priority is the Backseat

In the dance of priorities, cash commands the lead,
I fuel the ride, supply the haze, fulfill each need.
Yet on your list, a humble back seat I find,
A familiar space, where I'm often resigned.
Paying for gas, for smokes, for fleeting highs,
My contributions linger beneath worldly ties.
Yet I've dwelled in this shadow, a constant embrace,
Expecting change, a futile hopeful chase.
